Work Party to Fremont Peak

CMRG Members and Friends,

A work party to install the Automatic Transfer Switch and upgrade the repeater on Fremont Peak outside of Salida has been scheduled.

Date: Friday September 30 to Sunday October 2.

The Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) switches the building power from commercial power to a back up generator in the event of a commercial power outage on the mountain. Having this capability will keep the site and our customers on the air when the power goes out. The repeater upgrade is part of the steps needed to link the Salida repeater on 145.295 with the Cheyenne Mountain Repeater on 147.345 and eventually with Badger Mountain on 147.360.

Come for as many days as you can. If you can only make it one or two, that is fine. The conduit between the buildings has already been installed, but there is still a lot of work to do. Most of the work will be installing conduit inside the buildings and pulling wire. There will be some tower climbing involved as an antenna will be swapped out. If you have experience in electrical work, that will be a plus, but not required.

You will need to provide your own transportation to Salida. The travel time from Colorado Springs to Salida is about 2 hr 15 min. The road from Hwy 50 to the site is on an unimproved dirt road requiring 4 wheel drive and reasonable ground clearance. Work days will be long, but many hands can make the work go quicker. The initial plan is to leave Salida about 8am an return about 7pm.

I plan to drive to Salida Thursday night and stay in a motel Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

If you are interested, please contact me for more details. Feel free to invite other hams and friends.

The weather should be good. Looking forward to
